If you aren’t aware yet, TTDI has been home to loads of food trucks for quite some time now. Featuring delectable signature dishes, yummy beverages and super-tasty snacks, the food truck trend emerged a couple of years back, with experienced chefs (some of them from gourmet kitchens) deciding to kickstart their own food businesses. The result? Meals on wheels!
KL has quite a number of areas designated for food trucks. As they move around and make full use of their mobility, the same food trucks often pop up in regular spots and TTDI is one of them. Here are some of the food truck specialities you can discover in TTDI.
Most of what’s included in this list can be found at Food Truck Haven; sedap_ttdi (https://www.instagram.com/sedap_ttdi/?hl=en)
The opening hours for sedap_ttdi are as follows:
6.30pm – 12am (Mon – Thurs)
6.30pm – 1am (Fri – Sat)
8.00am 11.30am (Sunday Breakfast)
This edgy little grilled meat movement specialises in the creation of awesome western delights; namely, tantalising burgers! Serving gigantic patties wrapped in melted cheese and plenty of condiments, this food truck’s menu includes wicked sounding burger selections like The Reaper, now how’s that for edgy?
They also cater to ground events, both indoors and outdoors. Badboyz typically shows up in TTDI (sedap_ttdi) and other prominent parts of KL via their suave-looking truck, but they also sometimes appear in booths and stalls.
Cowboys Food Truck
While we’re on the topic of the Good, the Bad and the Tasty, giddyup to the Cowboys Food Truck for a tasty assortment! Serving a variety of meaty delights, they often make their rotations throughout TTDI, SS15 and Damansara Uptown. Their selections contribute to the incredible diversity of TTDI food so if you’re in the area and craving some true-blue Western tastes, try their basic po-boy sandwich, served with thick slices of slow-smoked beef briskets, slaw and chipotle mayo in home-made loaves that are crusty to the touch.
Nasi Lemak Kg Pandan
Western-style dishes are good and all but sometimes, you might just feel like going back to the local signatures. Well, the Nasi Lemak Kg Pandan food truck is here to serve! You can find this green van cruising through TTDI with tasty nasi lemak variations. Their signature addition is the use of pandan leaves, placed underneath the hot nasi lemak rice in strips (this can bring some extra flavour to your meal). You can also choose to add additional condiments and even some fried chicken (among other things) to your plate.
Aussie Country Roast
True food lovers with an interest in international cuisine may probably know that Australian food could be considered one of the best in the region (depending on the dish). The Aussie Country Roast food truck brings some of the tastiest authentic Australian signatures to TTDI, including mouth-watering roasted chicken (served with yummy pumpkin pieces, peas, carrots and potatoes) and scrumptious gravy rolls.
Their truck is the one with blue and red streaks, look out for it!
Are you up for some good old-fashioned authentic char keow teow? It seems that many regulars claim the Quack Teow food truck has the best wok charcoal cooked keow teow in town. The fare here can be found typically smeared with duck eggs. Get ready to potentially change all you knew about char keow teow.
Craving some quality beverages? With a banner tagline that reads: “Original Tea from Thailand”, Gimme Sheltr has a pretty straightforward selling point. The menu is not very extensive but it doesn’t have to be considering that most of what they serve is purportedly absolutely delicious. Try the Thai Coffee if you’re a coffee person or the Thai Milk Tea if you’re a tea lover and looking forward to a refreshingly creamy dose of relaxation.
Possibly considered one of the most renowned food truck options in TTDI, Gringos Malaysia brings amazing Mexican delicacies to the table. This black truck dons a striking red and yellow logo on its side and can be found frequenting the TTDI area. Try the signature beef burrito, with vegetables like mushrooms and greens and a mix of beef bits packed tightly in a crispy roll.
There are various other options on the menu, ranging from tacos and Lamb Nachos to Southwest Egg Rolls.
